The book of Ruth is a short and seemingly insignificant book of the bible about a seemingly insignificant women tucked away in the Old Testament. But this sort account of only 4 chapters packs a powerful punch. It tells a simple but remarkable story about a truly remarkable whose faith though adversity is a wonderful example for everyone who has wondered where is God, what is God doing and how do I get through the tough times of life.

Pub Church

I’m really excited that Lifechurch will start it’s Pub Church ministry on Wednesday February 9^th6.00pm at the Kings Head Hotel on King William St. This is a ministry designed to connect with people interested in faith who don’t go to church, or maybe have dropped a way from church. People who for whatever reason would not go to a church service, but might well be keen to chat about the faith, spirituality and the bible over a meal in a pub.

If you have friends, work colleagues, family who might really connect with this group please feel free to invite them along. The group will meet fortnightly and the vibe will be informal, relaxed and friendly.

“50:50 is one of the best things we’ve done as a church, and in my opinion is the best program we’ve ever done. The whole emphasis of 50:50 was extremely important, but the thing that really struck me about it was how effectively it was packaged for us.” Stephen Hales, Pastor, West Ryde Baptist Church.

50:50 is a five week program in which churches discover five powerful ways they can be a blessing to people living in poverty. For five weeks church services, children’s programs and small group bible studies focus on these five ways to bless people living in poverty. DVDs, preaching guides, children’s church materials, small group study booklets and powerful application activites are provided to help churches grow in their understanding of the five themes, to start living out what they are learning and to impart blessing to poor households around the world.

Discover afresh God’s concern for people living in poverty. Participate in a creative devotional activity that enables your congregation to hear God’s word to them in a deeply moving way and helps them respond to God’s call.

Discover how our consumption can both help and harm people living in poverty. Join in a simple act of fair trade that will help poor workers earn a decent living and see people in your church developing a lifestyle of ethical consumption.

Discover God’s call to use our voices to bring about justice for people living in poverty. Participate in an easy, effective advocacy action that helps transform the cricumstances of people living in poverty and begin building a habit of advocacy among your congregation.

Discover how generosity can release blessing in the lives of people living in poverty. Mobilise every household in your church to donate $50.00 to projects that help households in poverty lift themselves out of poverty. Use this simple sacrifice to build a pattern of generosity into the lives of congregation members.

Discover new ways to pray thoughtfully around poverty. Participate in a creative and engaging congregational prayer time for people living in poverty and kick start a regular pattern of prayer for people living in poverty.
